2010 Movie Picks

Ok, so I’m a year late–my post on 2011 finally encouraged me to write this!

My top movies for 2010:

  • The Book of Eli: Denzel Washington in post-apocalyptic America. With a twist. • How to Train your Dragon: A rival to Pixar’s story telling, a really great movie. [IMDB: 8.2 | Rotten Tomatoes: 98% | Metacritic: 74]
  • Inception: Layers upon layers, or at least I think so. A thoughtful movie. [IMDB: 8.9 | Rotten Tomatoes: 86% | Metacritic: 74]
  • TRON: Legacy: We had to wait 28 years for a TRON sequel, thankfully they got it right. [IMDB: 7.0 | Rotten Tomatoes: 50% | Metacritic: 49]
  • Iron Man 2: Not as original as the original, but still a good action movie. [IMDB: 7.1 | Rotten Tomatoes: 74% | Metacritic: 74]
  • The Town: Doubly entertaining now that I live in the Boston area and work in Cambridge. A bit violent, but a good story. [IMDB: 7.7 | Rotten Tomatoes: 94% | Metacritic: 74]
  • The American: More of an old-fashioned movie. George Clooney as an assassin. [IMDB: 6.5 | Rotten Tomatoes: 66% | Metacritic: 61]
  • True Grit: A remake, but a good movie in its own right. [IMDB: 7.9 | Rotten Tomatoes: 96% | Metacritic: 80]

Not as good as they could have been:

  • Toy Story 3: For me, this wasn’t up to Pixar’s standards. The movie was good, but not great. Perhaps my opinions will change over time. [IMDB: 8.6 | Rotten Tomatoes: 74% | Metacritic: 99]
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Party 1 (7.1): I think there were a number of continuity issues with the movie. Also it was all a setup for the finale in 2011, so I was a little miffed at having to pay twice for a single movie. [IMDB: 7.6 | Rotten Tomatoes: 79% | Metacritic: 65]

Disappointments:

Really wish I skipped it:

  • Clash of the Titans: I shoulda skipped it, the 1981 version, while campy and corny was better…

Movies I skipped:
